K2-45 b: A Close-Orbiting Giant in a Distant System

K2-45 is a single-star system 1620 light-years away, and its one known planet orbits the star directly. The host star has 0.68 solar masses, a radius of 0.766 solar radii, and a temperature of 4380 K, meaning it is less massive, smaller, and cooler than the Sun.

The only cataloged planet is K2-45 b, a Jupiter-like world detected by transit in 2016. Its radius is 6.71 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, while its orbital period is 1.73 days. The combination of a Jupiter-like radius and a period of just 1.73 days places this planet very close to its host.
