System Layout
3 planets linked to this host
K2-3 is an M V star, a small, cool red dwarf, located 144 light-years away. It hosts three known planets. The star is estimated to be 6.9 billion years old, with a mass of 0.549 solar masses, a radius of 0.546 solar radii, and a temperature of 3840 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler than the Sun's.
All three planets were discovered by transit in 2015, the method in which a planet passing in front of its star causes a small dip in observed brightness. K2-3 b is classified as a Super-Earth, with a mass of 5.11 Earth masses, a radius of 2.08 Earth radii, and an orbital period of 10.1 days. K2-3 c is also a Super-Earth, with a mass of 2.68 Earth masses, a radius of 1.58 Earth radii, and an orbital period of 24.6 days. K2-3 d is classified as Earth-like, with a reported upper limit of 2.2 Earth masses, a radius of 1.46 Earth radii, and an orbital period of 44.6 days. Among the listed planets, K2-3 b has the shortest year, K2-3 c the second-shortest, and K2-3 d the longest, by reported estimates.
K2-3 b's radius and mass estimates are larger than Earth's, and its mean density is 3.14 g/cm³, 0.569 times Earth's. K2-3 c's radius and mass estimates are also larger than Earth's, with a mean density of 3.73 g/cm³, 0.677 times Earth's. K2-3 d's radius estimate is larger than Earth's. Among the listed planets, K2-3 d has the smallest radius, K2-3 c the second-smallest, and K2-3 b the largest, by reported estimates.
