K2-232 and Its Giant Planet

K2-232 is a star 426 light-years away with one known planet. The star is 1.43 billion years old and has a mass of 1.19 solar masses, a radius of 1.16 solar radii, and a temperature of 6150 K. Its mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

The planet K2-232 b was discovered in 2018 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. K2-232 b is a Jupiter-like planet, a size class for planets exceeding 4 times Earth's radius. It completes an orbit every 11.2 days, has a mass of 126 Earth masses, and a radius of 11.2 Earth radii. Its radius and mass estimates are larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.495 g/cm³, 0.0898 times Earth's.
