K2-205 and Its Super-Earth

K2-205 is a star 1320 light-years away with a single known planet, K2-205 b. The host star has a mass of 1.05 solar masses, a radius of 1.25 solar radii, and a temperature of 5840 K. Its reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's.

K2-205 b is a Super-Earth discovered by transit in 2018. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. The planet completes an orbit every 26.7 days. Its radius is 2 Earth radii, and its reported radius estimate is larger than Earth's. Planet size classes compare radius with Earth's: a Sub-Earth is smaller than Earth, an Earth-like planet stays within 1.5 times Earth's radius, a Super-Earth reaches 2.5 times, a Neptune-like planet reaches 4 times, and a Jupiter-like planet exceeds 4 times Earth's radius.
