K2-197 and Its Neptune-like Planet

K2-197 is a star 808 light-years away with a single known planet, K2-197 b. The host star has a mass of 1 solar masses, a radius of 0.93 solar radii, and a temperature of 5670 K. Its radius is smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

K2-197 b was discovered in 2018 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish the planet's orbital period. K2-197 b completes one orbit every 8.36 days.

K2-197 b is Neptune-like, a size class that reaches 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 2.56 Earth radii, larger than Earth's.
