K2-187 and Its Four Planets

K2-187 is a star located 1080 light-years away, and it hosts four known planets. The star has a mass of 0.93 solar masses, a radius of 0.92 solar radii, and a temperature of 5370 K. Its radius is smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

All four planets were discovered by transit in 2018. The transit method detects a planet when it passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. K2-187 b and K2-187 c are both Earth-like. K2-187 b has an orbital period of 0.774 days and a radius of 1.2 Earth radii. K2-187 c has an orbital period of 2.87 days and a radius of 1.4 Earth radii. Both are larger than Earth.

K2-187 d and K2-187 e are both Super-Earths. K2-187 d has an orbital period of 7.15 days and a radius of 2.4 Earth radii. K2-187 e has an orbital period of 13.6 days and a radius of 1.9 Earth radii. Both are larger than Earth. Among the listed planets, K2-187 b has the shortest year at 0.774 days, while K2-187 e has the longest at 13.6 days. K2-187 b also has the smallest radius at 1.2 Earth radii, and K2-187 d has the largest at 2.4 Earth radii.
