K2-182 b: A Neptune-like World in a One-Planet System

K2-182 is a star located 505 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star is estimated to be 2.07 billion years old, with a mass of 0.865 solar masses and a radius of 0.793 solar radii. Its temperature is 5170 K. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The system's only known planet is K2-182 b, a Neptune-like planet discovered by transit in 2018. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. K2-182 b has a mass of 21 Earth masses and a radius of 2.71 Earth radii. Its reported mass and radius estimates are both larger than Earth's. The planet completes an orbit every 4.74 days. Its mean density is 5.79 g/cm³, 1.05 times Earth's.
