System Layout
3 planets linked to this host
K2-136 is a K5 V star located 193 light-years away. Its reported mass is 0.71 solar masses and its reported radius is 0.71 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature of 4360 K is cooler than the Sun's. The star's age is 0.688 billion years. A K-type main-sequence dwarf of this kind is cooler and redder than the Sun. Three planets are known to orbit this host.
K2-136 b, K2-136 c, and K2-136 d were all discovered by transit in 2017. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. K2-136 b is an Earth-like planet with a radius of 1.01 Earth radii and an orbital period of 7.98 days, the shortest year among the listed planets. Its mass is a reported upper limit of 4.3 Earth masses. K2-136 d is a Super-Earth with a radius of 1.57 Earth radii and an orbital period of 25.6 days, the longest year among the listed planets, and its mass is a reported upper limit of 3 Earth masses. K2-136 c is a Neptune-like planet with a radius of 3 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and a mass of 18.1 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 3.69 g/cm³, 0.67 times Earth's. K2-136 c orbits every 17.3 days, the second-shortest year among the listed planets, and has the largest radius among them.
Size classes compare radius with Earth's: an Earth-like planet stays within 1.5 times Earth's radius, a Super-Earth reaches 2.5 times, and a Neptune-like planet reaches 4 times. Upper limits are reported bounds rather than exact values.
