K2-116 is a star located 161 light-years away. It has a mass of 0.727 solar masses, a radius of 0.687 solar radii, and a temperature of 4550 K, all smaller or cooler than the Sun. One planet is known to orbit this star.
That planet is K2-116 b, discovered in 2017 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. K2-116 b completes an orbit every 4.66 days. Its radius is 0.69 Earth radii, which is smaller than Earth's. Because size classes compare radius with Earth's, a Sub-Earth like K2-116 b is smaller than Earth.
