HIP 66074 and Its Planet

HIP 66074 is a star 116 light-years from Earth with one known planet in orbit around it. The host star is estimated to be 7.9 billion years old, with a mass of 0.705 solar masses and a radius of 0.69 solar radii. Its temperature is 4300 K. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The system's only known planet, HIP 66074 b, was discovered in 2023 using astrometry, a method that tracks a star's slight positional shifts caused by an orbiting companion. The planet has a reported mass of 1590 Earth masses and an orbital period of 311 days, the time it takes to complete one orbit. That mass estimate is larger than Earth's and roughly 5 times Jupiter's mass.
