HIP 65426 and Its Young Giant Planet

HIP 65426 is a star 355 light-years from Earth, with one known planet in orbit. The star is an A-type main-sequence dwarf with a spectral type of A2 V, and it is very young, with an age of 0.014 billion years. Its mass is 1.96 solar masses, its radius is 1.77 solar radii, and its temperature is 8840 K. The star's reported mass estimate is larger than the Sun's, its reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

The single planet, HIP 65426 b, was discovered in 2017 by imaging. It is a Jupiter-like planet, a class that exceeds 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 16.8 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 2860 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's and roughly 9 times Jupiter's mass. Its mean density is 3.32 g/cm³, 0.602 times Earth's. No orbital period is reported for HIP 65426 b.
