HD 83443 and Its Two Known Planets

HD 83443 is a K0 V star located 133 light-years away. Its spectral type marks it as a K-type main-sequence dwarf, a class cooler than the Sun. The star is estimated to be 2.64 billion years old, with a mass of 1 solar masses and a radius of 0.94 solar radii, making it slightly smaller than the Sun. Its temperature is 5440 K, cooler than the Sun's. Two planets are known to orbit this host.

HD 83443 b was discovered in 2002 by the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. It has a minimum mass of 128 Earth masses and an orbital period of 2.99 days, the shortest year among the listed planets.

HD 83443 c was also found by radial velocity, in 2022. Its mass is 477 Earth masses, roughly 1.5 times Jupiter's mass, and its orbital period is 8240 days - the longest year among the listed planets. Both planets are more massive than Earth.
