HD 62364: A Distant Star With Two Giant Worlds

HD 62364 is a single F7 V star located 173 light-years away. Its spectral type places it among the F-type stars, which are hotter and more massive than the Sun. The star has a reported age of 3.9 billion years, a mass of 1.16 solar masses, and a radius of 1.4 solar radii. Its temperature is 6260 K, which is hotter than the Sun. Two planets orbit this host.

Both planets were discovered in 2022 using the radial velocity method, which measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion; repeated wobbles reveal the planet and its orbital period. The two planets are designated HD 62364 b and HD 62364 c. HD 62364 b has a reported mass of 5970 Earth masses and an orbital period of 5140 days. This makes it roughly 18.8 times Jupiter's mass. HD 62364 c has a reported mass of 7920 Earth masses and an orbital period of 74800 days. Its mass is roughly 24.9 times Jupiter's mass. Both planets are more massive than Earth.

Among the listed planets, HD 62364 b has the shortest year by reported estimates at 5140 days, the smallest reported mass at 5970 Earth masses, and the largest reported mass at 7920 Earth masses for HD 62364 c. The star itself has a mass and radius larger than the Sun's, and its temperature is hotter than the Sun's.
