HD 5583 is a star 715 light-years away with one known planet in orbit. The host star is 7.41 billion years old and has a mass of 1.01 solar masses. Its radius of 9.09 solar radii is larger than the Sun's, and its temperature of 4830 K is cooler than the Sun's.
The orbiting planet, HD 5583 b, was discovered in 2016 by the radial velocity method, which measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. Repeated wobbles reveal the planet and its orbital period. HD 5583 b has a minimum mass of 1840 Earth masses, a lower bound on its true mass, and completes one orbit every 139 days. Its minimum mass is larger than Earth's and roughly 5.78 times Jupiter's mass.
