HD 55696 and Its Lone Known Planet

HD 55696 is a G-type dwarf star 254 light-years away. It is 2.64 billion years old, with a mass of 1.29 solar masses and a radius of 1.52 solar radii. Its temperature of 6010 K is hotter than the Sun's, and both its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's.

Just one planet is known around HD 55696. HD 55696 b was discovered in 2018 by the radial velocity method, which measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion; repeated wobbles reveal the planet and its orbital period. The planet's minimum mass, a lower bound on its true mass, is 1230 Earth masses, roughly 3.87 times Jupiter's mass and larger than Earth's. It completes one orbit every 1830 days.
