HD 27969 and Its Planet

HD 27969 is a G-type main-sequence dwarf 222 light-years away, with one known planet in orbit. The star's spectral type of G0 V places it in the same broad temperature class as the Sun. Its reported mass is 1.16 solar masses, its radius is 1.27 solar radii, and its temperature is 5970 K. Each of these estimates is larger or hotter than the corresponding solar value.

The system's only cataloged planet is HD 27969 b, found by radial velocity in 2021. That method detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion; repeated wobbles reveal the planet and its orbital period. HD 27969 b completes one orbit in 655 days. Its minimum mass - a lower bound on its true mass, not an ordinary estimate - is 1530 Earth masses, larger than Earth's and roughly 4.8 times Jupiter's mass.
