HD 224538 and Its Planet

HD 224538 is a star 258 light-years away with an F9 IV/V spectral type, placing it in a temperature class between the Sun's G-type and the hotter A-type stars. It is 2 billion years old, with a mass of 1.34 solar masses, a radius of 1.54 solar radii, and a temperature of 6100 K. Its mass and radius are both larger than the Sun's, and its temperature is hotter than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, HD 224538 b, was discovered in 2016 using the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. It has a mass of 2080 Earth masses, roughly 6.53 times Jupiter's mass and larger than Earth's, and an orbital period of 1200 days.
