HD 216770: A Sun-Like Star and Its One Known Planet

HD 216770 is a G-type star 120 light-years away. Its spectral type of G5 marks it as Sun-like, and it is the only star in its system. The star has a mass of 1 solar masses and a radius of 0.86 solar radii, making its reported radius estimate smaller than the Sun’s. Its reported temperature of 5460 K is cooler than the Sun’s. An age upper limit of 1 billion years has been reported for the star.

One planet is known to orbit HD 216770. HD 216770 b was discovered in 2003 by the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet’s gravity induces in its star’s motion. The planet has a minimum mass of 181 Earth masses, a lower bound on its true mass that is larger than Earth’s. It completes an orbit every 118 days.
