HD 18438 is an M2.5 III star 731 light-years from Earth. Its spectral type places it among the coolest and reddest stars, and the star is 5.5 billion years old. It is more massive than the Sun at 1.84 solar masses and much larger at 88.5 solar radii. Its temperature of 3860 K is cooler than the Sun's.
One planet orbits this host. HD 18438 b was discovered in 2023 by the radial velocity method, which tracks the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star. The planet has a minimum mass of 6670 Earth masses, roughly 21 times Jupiter's mass and larger than Earth's. It completes one orbit every 803 days.
