HD 141004: A Sun-Like Star and Its Close Orbiting Planet

HD 141004 is a G0Vvar star 38.5 light-years from Earth. Its spectral type places it in the G class, the same broad temperature class as the Sun, and the star is hotter than the Sun at 5940 K. Its reported mass estimate of 1.11 solar masses is larger than the Sun's, and its reported radius estimate of 1.34 solar radii is also larger than the Sun's. The star is estimated to be 6.32 billion years old. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, HD 141004 b, was discovered in 2021 by the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion; repeated wobbles reveal the planet and its orbital period. HD 141004 b has a minimum mass of 13.6 Earth masses, a lower bound on its true mass, and completes an orbit in 15.5 days. Its minimum mass is larger than Earth's.
