HD 136418 and Its Lone Known Planet

HD 136418 is a G5 star located 343 light-years from Earth. The star is estimated to be 4 billion years old, with a mass of 1.33 solar masses, a radius of 3.4 solar radii, and a temperature of 5070 K. Its mass and radius are both larger than the Sun's, while its temperature is cooler. One planet orbits this star.

That planet, HD 136418 b, was discovered in 2009 by the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. Its minimum mass is 680 Earth masses, making it larger than Earth and roughly 2.14 times Jupiter's mass. A minimum mass is a lower bound on a planet's true mass, distinguishing it from an ordinary mass estimate. HD 136418 b completes one orbit every 464 days.
