HD 121504 b: A Giant Planet Orbiting a Sun-Like Star

HD 121504 is a G5 star located 136 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star is larger than the Sun, with a radius of 1.15 solar radii, and hotter, with a temperature of 5950 K. Its mass is 1.1 solar masses, and its age is 3 billion years.

The planet HD 121504 b was discovered in 2003 using the radial velocity method, which measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion; repeated wobbles reveal the planet and its orbital period. The planet completes one orbit every 63.3 days. Its minimum mass is 480 Earth masses, a lower bound on its true mass that is larger than Earth's and roughly 1.51 times Jupiter's mass.
