HD 111998 and Its Lone Known Planet
HD 111998 is an F5 V star 108 light-years away. This spectral type marks a main-sequence dwarf somewhat hotter than the Sun, and the star's measured temperature of 6560 K bears that out. Its radius is 1.45 solar radii and its mass is 1.18 solar masses, both larger than the corresponding solar values. The star has an age of 1.9 billion years and hosts one known planet.
That planet is HD 111998 b, discovered in 2016 by the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star. Its orbital period is 810 days, and its mass is 1530 Earth masses, roughly 4.8 times Jupiter's mass and larger than Earth's.
