HATS-53 is a star located 1910 light-years from Earth, and it hosts one known planet, HATS-53 b. The star is 9 billion years old and has a mass of 0.964 solar masses, a radius of 1.1 solar radii, and a temperature of 5640 K. Its reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's, while its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.
HATS-53 b was discovered in 2017 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. It is classified as Jupiter-like, meaning its radius exceeds 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 15 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 189 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. The planet completes an orbit every 3.85 days. Its mean density is 0.308 g/cm³, 0.0558 times Earth's.
