HATS-46 b: A Jupiter-like World

HATS-46 is a star located 1480 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star is estimated to be 3 billion years old, with a mass of 0.917 solar masses and a radius of 0.853 solar radii. Its temperature is 5500 K. The star's reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's, and its reported radius estimate is also smaller than the Sun's. Its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet HATS-46 b is a Jupiter-like world, a size class that exceeds 4 times Earth's radius. It was discovered in 2018 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. HATS-46 b has a radius of 10.1 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and a mass of 55 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.292 g/cm³, 0.053 times Earth's. The planet completes an orbit in 4.74 days.
