HATS-5 and Its Solitary Planet

HATS-5 is a G-type star 804 light-years away. Its mass is 0.936 solar masses and its radius is 0.871 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature of 5300 K is cooler than the Sun's. It is 3.6 billion years old. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, HATS-5 b, is a Jupiter-like world discovered by the transit method in 2014. Its transit across the star's face produces a small dip in observed brightness, which can be tracked to establish the planet's period. It circles HATS-5 every 4.76 days. Its radius is 10.2 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 75.3 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.388 g/cm³, 0.0705 times Earth's.
