HAT-P-50 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

HAT-P-50 is a star 1680 light-years from Earth with a spectral type of F5. The star is 3.37 billion years old, has a mass of 1.27 solar masses, a radius of 1.7 solar radii, and a temperature of 6280 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, HAT-P-50 b, is a Jupiter-like world discovered by transit in 2015. It completes an orbit every 3.12 days. Its radius of 14.4 Earth radii is larger than Earth's, and its mass of 429 Earth masses - roughly 1.35 times Jupiter's mass - is also larger than Earth's. The planet's mean density is 0.786 g/cm³, 0.143 times Earth's.
