HAT-P-23 b: A Jupiter-like World in a Close Orbit

HAT-P-23 is a G0 star located 1190 light-years away. Its reported mass estimate is 1.13 solar masses and its reported radius estimate is 1.2 solar radii, both larger than the Sun's. The star's reported temperature is 5910 K, which is hotter than the Sun's, and its age is 4 billion years.

One planet orbits this host. HAT-P-23 b is a Jupiter-like planet discovered by the transit method in 2010. Its radius of 15.3 Earth radii exceeds Earth's radius, and its mass of 664 Earth masses is also larger than Earth's, roughly 2.09 times Jupiter's mass. It completes an orbit in 1.21 days. Its mean density is 1.02 g/cm³, 0.184 times Earth's.
