HAT-P-12 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

HAT-P-12 is a K4 star 466 light-years away. Its mass is 0.733 solar masses, its radius is 0.701 solar radii, and its temperature is 4650 K, making it cooler, smaller, and less massive than the Sun. It is 2.5 billion years old, and one planet orbits it.

That planet is HAT-P-12 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered by transit in 2009. It has a mass of 67.1 Earth masses and a radius of 10.7 Earth radii, both larger than Earth's. Its orbital period is 3.21 days, and its mean density is 0.298 g/cm³, 0.054 times Earth's.
