GJ 806 and Its Two Known Planets

GJ 806 is an M1.5 V star, a small, cool red dwarf, located 39.3 light-years away. Its age is 5 billion years, its mass is 0.413 solar masses, its radius is 0.414 solar radii, and its temperature is 3600 K. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

Two planets are known to orbit this star. GJ 806 b was discovered by the transit method in 2023. Its mass is 1.9 Earth masses and its radius is 1.33 Earth radii, both larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 4.44 g/cm³, 0.806 times Earth's. Classified as Earth-like, it completes an orbit in 0.926 days, the shortest year among the listed planets.

GJ 806 c was also discovered in 2023, using the radial velocity method, which measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. Its minimum mass is 5.8 Earth masses, larger than Earth's, and its orbital period is 6.64 days, the longest year among the listed planets.
