GJ 1061 and Its Three Known Planets

GJ 1061 is a small, cool red dwarf of spectral type M5.5 V located 12 light-years from Earth. Its reported mass is 0.12 solar masses, smaller than the Sun's, and its reported radius is 0.156 solar radii, also smaller than the Sun's. The star's reported temperature of 2950 K is cooler than the Sun's. Its age is given as a reported lower limit of 7 billion years. Three planets have been found orbiting this host.

All three planets were discovered in 2020 using the radial velocity method, which measures the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion; repeated wobbles reveal the planet and its orbital period. Each of the three reported mass estimates is larger than Earth's.

GJ 1061 b has a reported mass of 1.11 Earth masses and an orbital period of 3.21 days. Among the listed planets, it has the shortest year and the smallest reported mass. GJ 1061 c has a reported mass of 1.81 Earth masses and an orbital period of 6.68 days. Among the listed planets, it has the second-shortest year and the largest reported mass. GJ 1061 d has a reported mass of 1.67 Earth masses and an orbital period of 13.1 days; among the listed planets, it has the second-smallest reported mass and the longest year.
