DMPP-2: A Hot, Massive Star With Three Close-Orbiting Worlds

DMPP-2 is a star located 450 light-years away with three known planets. It is an F5 V star, meaning it is a main-sequence dwarf. The star is 2 billion years old and has a mass of 1.44 solar masses, a radius of 1.78 solar radii, and a temperature of 6500 K. Its reported mass, radius, and temperature are each larger or hotter than the Sun's corresponding values.

All three planets were found using the radial velocity method, which detects the gravitational wobble a planet induces in its star's motion. DMPP-2 b was discovered in 2019, while DMPP-2 c and DMPP-2 d were both discovered in 2026.

DMPP-2 c has a minimum mass of 51.8 Earth masses and an orbital period of 3.17 days. DMPP-2 b has a minimum mass of 171 Earth masses and an orbital period of 5.2 days. DMPP-2 d has a minimum mass of 91.8 Earth masses and an orbital period of 16.5 days. Each planet's minimum mass is larger than Earth's. A minimum mass is a lower bound on a planet's true mass; it differs from an ordinary mass estimate.

Among the listed planets, DMPP-2 c has the shortest year, at 3.17 days, and the smallest minimum mass, at 51.8 Earth masses. DMPP-2 b has the second-shortest year, at 5.2 days, and the largest minimum mass, at 171 Earth masses. DMPP-2 d has the longest year, at 16.5 days, and the second-smallest minimum mass, at 91.8 Earth masses.
