CoRoT-6 is a star 2100 light-years away with a spectral type of F9 V, placing it among the hotter, yellow-white main-sequence stars. Its mass is 1.05 solar masses, its radius is 1.02 solar radii, and its temperature is 6090 K, hotter than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit this host.
That planet, CoRoT-6 b, was discovered by the transit method in 2009. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness, and repeated dips help establish orbital periods. CoRoT-6 b completes one orbit every 8.89 days.
CoRoT-6 b is a Jupiter-like planet, a size class that exceeds 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius is 13.1 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Its mass is 941 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's and roughly 2.96 times Jupiter's mass. Its mean density is 2.32 g/cm³, 0.422 times Earth's.
