CoRoT-23 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

CoRoT-23 is a G0 V star 3460 light-years away, and one planet orbits it. The star is a Sun-like dwarf with a spectral class that also marks it as a main-sequence star. It is 7.2 billion years old, holds 1.14 solar masses, spans 1.61 solar radii, and has a temperature of 5900 K. Its mass, radius, and temperature estimates are all larger or hotter than the Sun's.

The system's only known planet is CoRoT-23 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered by transit in 2011. A transit occurs when a planet crosses in front of its star from our viewpoint, dimming its light. CoRoT-23 b completes an orbit every 3.63 days. Its radius is 11.8 Earth radii, larger than Earth, and its mass is 890 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's and roughly 2.8 times Jupiter's mass. Its mean density is 3.01 g/cm³, 0.546 times Earth's.
