CoRoT-16 and Its Lone Planet

CoRoT-16 is a star 2390 light-years away with a spectral type of G5 V, a Sun-like designation that marks it as a main-sequence dwarf. Its reported mass is 1.1 solar masses and its radius is 1.19 solar radii, both larger than the Sun's, while its temperature of 5650 K is cooler than the Sun's. The star's age is given as 6.73 billion years.

One planet is known to orbit CoRoT-16. CoRoT-16 b was discovered by the transit method in 2011, when the planet passed in front of its star from our viewpoint and caused a small dip in observed brightness. The planet is Jupiter-like, a class based on radius rather than composition, since its radius of 13.1 Earth radii exceeds four times Earth's radius and its mass of 170 Earth masses is likewise larger than Earth's. It completes an orbit every 5.35 days, an exceptionally short period. Its mean density is 0.416 g/cm³, which is 0.0755 times Earth's.
