70 Vir and Its Planet

70 Vir is a G5V star 58.4 light-years from Earth, with a spectral class indicating a Sun-like dwarf. It is 7.92 billion years old and has a mass of 1.1 solar masses, a radius of 1.88 solar radii, and a temperature of 5550 K. Its mass and radius are both larger than the Sun's, while its temperature is cooler. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, 70 Vir b, was discovered in 1996 by the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. It has a minimum mass of 2360 Earth masses, roughly 7.42 times Jupiter's mass and larger than Earth's, on an orbital period of 117 days.
