7 CMa is a K1 III star with an M-type companion, located 64.6 light-years away. The system hosts two known planets. The star is 4.3 billion years old and contains 1.34 solar masses, with a radius of 4.87 solar radii and a temperature of 4830 K. Its mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, while its temperature is cooler.
7 CMa b was discovered in 2011 by the radial velocity method, which detects the wobble a planet's gravity induces in its star's motion. The planet has a mass estimate of 588 Earth masses and an orbital period of 735 days, making it the shortest year among the listed planets. Its mass is roughly 1.85 times Jupiter's and larger than Earth's. 7 CMa c was discovered in 2019 by the same method, with a mass estimate of 277 Earth masses and an orbital period of 996 days, the longest year among the listed planets. Its mass is also larger than Earth's.
