WASP-94 A and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

WASP-94 A is an F8 star 689 light-years away with one known planet. Its spectral type places it in a temperature class hotter than the Sun's G-type, and its reported measurements bear that out: the star has a mass of 1.45 solar masses, a radius of 1.62 solar radii, a temperature of 6150 K, and an age of 4 billion years. Its mass and radius estimates are both larger than the Sun's, and its temperature is hotter.

The one planet orbiting this star is WASP-94 A b, discovered in 2014 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness. WASP-94 A b is a Jupiter-like planet, a class defined by a radius exceeding 4 times Earth's. Its radius of 17.7 Earth radii and its mass of 159 Earth masses are both larger than Earth's, though the planet completes an orbit in just 3.95 days. Its mean density is 0.158 g/cm³, 0.0286 times Earth's.
