WASP-92 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

WASP-92 is an F7 star 1880 light-years away with a single known planet in orbit. The star is 2.29 billion years old, has a mass of 1.19 solar masses, a radius of 1.34 solar radii, and a temperature of 6280 K. Its mass, radius, and temperature are all reported as greater than the Sun's.

The host star's only planet is WASP-92 b, a Jupiter-like planet discovered by transit in 2016. Transit observations detect the small dip in starlight caused when the planet crosses in front of its star. WASP-92 b completes an orbit every 2.17 days, has a radius of 16.4 Earth radii, and has a mass of 256 Earth masses. Its radius exceeds Earth's, placing it well above the 4-Earth-radii threshold for the Jupiter-like class. The planet's mean density is 0.321 g/cm³, 0.0583 times Earth's.
