WASP-38 and Its Giant Planet

WASP-38 is a star 444 light-years away with a spectral type of F8 V, a main-sequence dwarf. It is 2.8 billion years old, has 1.28 solar masses, 1.35 solar radii, and a temperature of 6440 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, WASP-38 b, is a Jupiter-like world discovered by transit in 2010. It has 1090 Earth masses and 13.8 Earth radii, both larger than Earth's. Its mass is roughly 3.44 times Jupiter's mass. WASP-38 b completes an orbit every 6.87 days, and its mean density is 2.3 g/cm³, 0.417 times Earth's.
