WASP-29 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

WASP-29 is a star located 286 light-years away. It has 0.88 solar masses, a radius of 0.636 solar radii, and a temperature of 5200 K. Its reported radius estimate is smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit this star.

That planet, WASP-29 b, was discovered by transit in 2010. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. WASP-29 b is Jupiter-like, a size class for planets whose radius exceeds four times Earth's. Its radius is 8.63 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Its mass is 73.1 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. It completes an orbit every 3.92 days. Its mean density is 0.626 g/cm³, 0.114 times Earth's.
