WASP-23 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

WASP-23 is a star 677 light-years away with one known planet. The host star has a reported mass of 0.84 solar masses, a radius of 0.887 solar radii, and a temperature of 5050 K. Its mass and radius are smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler.

The planet WASP-23 b is Jupiter-like and was discovered by transit in 2010. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. WASP-23 b has a mass of 281 Earth masses, a radius of 10.8 Earth radii, and an orbital period of 2.94 days. Its mass and radius are larger than Earth's, and its mean density is 1.23 g/cm³, 0.224 times Earth's.
