WASP-142 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

WASP-142 is an F8 star 2380 light-years away, with a reported upper limit of 2 billion years on its age. Its reported mass is 1.33 solar masses, its reported radius is 1.64 solar radii, and its temperature is 6010 K. Both its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, WASP-142 b, is Jupiter-like. It was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Its mass is 267 Earth masses, its radius is 17.1 Earth radii, and its orbital period is 2.05 days, the time it takes to complete one orbit. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than Earth's, and its mean density is 0.292 g/cm³, 0.0529 times Earth's.
