WASP-101 and Its Lone Known Planet

WASP-101 is a star 656 light-years away with a spectral type of F6. It is 0.9 billion years old and has a mass of 1.34 solar masses, a radius of 1.29 solar radii, and a temperature of 6400 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its temperature is hotter than the Sun's. One planet has been found around this host.

That planet is WASP-101 b, discovered in 2014 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. WASP-101 b is Jupiter-like, a size class for planets exceeding 4 times Earth's radius. It completes an orbit every 3.59 days. Its radius is 16 Earth radii and its mass is 162 Earth masses, both larger than Earth's corresponding values. Its mean density is 0.217 g/cm³, 0.0394 times Earth's.
