WASP-1 and Its Giant Planet

WASP-1 is a star 1280 light-years away with a spectral type of F7 V, placing it among the hotter, F-type main-sequence stars. Its reported mass is 1.15 solar masses, its radius is 1.24 solar radii, and its surface temperature is 6200 K. Each of these estimates is larger or hotter than the corresponding value for the Sun. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet, WASP-1 b, was discovered by the transit method in 2007, which detects the small dip in a star's brightness when a planet crosses in front of it. WASP-1 b is classified as Jupiter-like, meaning its radius exceeds four times Earth's. Its radius is 16.6 Earth radii and its mass is 271 Earth masses, both larger than Earth's corresponding values. It completes an orbit in 2.52 days. Its mean density is 0.326 g/cm³, which is 0.0591 times Earth's mean density.
