TOI-880: A K-Type Star with Two Known Planets

TOI-880 is a K-type star located 198 light-years away, with two planets in orbit around it. The star is estimated to have a mass of 0.87 solar masses and a radius of 0.83 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's. Its temperature of 5050 K is cooler than the Sun's, and its age is 5.2 billion years.

The two planets were both detected by the transit method, which identifies the small dips in starlight caused when a planet passes in front of its star. TOI-880.02 is classified as a Super-Earth, a size class that compares planetary radius with Earth's. It has a radius of 2.19 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and orbits its star every 2.58 days, the shortest orbital period among the listed planets and the smallest radius by reported estimates.

TOI-880 c is a Jupiter-like planet, a class defined by a radius exceeding four times Earth's. Its radius of 4.95 Earth radii is larger than Earth's and the largest among the listed planets. It completes one orbit every 6.39 days, the longest orbital period among the listed planets by reported estimates. It was discovered in 2025, one year after TOI-880.02.
