TOI-762 A and Its Giant Planet

TOI-762 A is a star 321 light-years away with one known planet. The star is estimated to be 9.3 billion years old, with a mass of 0.442 solar masses and a radius of 0.425 solar radii. Its temperature is 3270 K, cooler than the Sun, and its mass and radius are both smaller than the Sun's.

The planet TOI-762 A b was discovered by transit in 2024. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. TOI-762 A b orbits every 3.47 days and has a radius of 8.34 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Its Jupiter-like classification reflects that radius, which exceeds four times Earth's radius. The planet's mass is 79.8 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's, and its mean density is 0.758 g/cm³, 0.138 times Earth's.
