TOI-6223 b: A Close-Orbiting Giant Around a Cool Dwarf

TOI-6223 is an M0 V star, a small, cool red dwarf, located 434 light-years away. The star is 9.8 billion years old, holds a mass of 0.582 solar masses and a radius of 0.576 solar radii, and has a temperature of 3900 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host: TOI-6223 b.

TOI-6223 b is a Jupiter-like planet, meaning its radius exceeds four times Earth's. Its radius is 5.07 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and it completes an orbit every 3.86 days. The planet was found by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness, and repeated dips help establish orbital periods.
