TOI-559 b: A Giant Planet Around a Sun-Like Star

TOI-559 is a G V star, a Sun-like dwarf, located 761 light-years away. The star has a mass of 1.03 solar masses, a radius of 1.23 solar radii, and a temperature of 5930 K. Its reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's. TOI-559 is 6.8 billion years old and hosts one known planet.

That planet, TOI-559 b, is a Jupiter-like world discovered in 2021 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. It orbits every 6.98 days. Its radius is 12.2 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and well beyond the threshold that defines Jupiter-like planets. Its mass is 1910 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's and roughly 6.01 times Jupiter's mass. Its mean density is 5.76 g/cm³, 1.04 times Earth's.
