TOI-5422 b: A Distant Jupiter-like World

TOI-5422 is a star 1130 light-years away with an age of 7.6 billion years, a mass of 1.07 solar masses, a radius of 1.47 solar radii, and a temperature of 5820 K. Its reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet, TOI-5422 b, is a Jupiter-like world discovered by transit in 2026. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. TOI-5422 b orbits every 5.38 days. Its mass is 8900 Earth masses, and its radius is 9.1 Earth radii. Its reported radius estimate is larger than Earth's, and its reported mass estimate is larger than Earth's and roughly 28 times Jupiter's mass. Size classes compare radius with Earth's: a Jupiter-like planet exceeds 4 times Earth's radius, so TOI-5422 b's radius places it in that class. Its mean density is 65 g/cm³, 11.8 times Earth's.
